For Winter Quarter, I moved down to Olympia to intern full-time for State Senator Patty Kuderer. At first I was waitlisted for the internship, but then I was offered a position working in Senator Patty Kuderer’s office! In Senator Kuderer's office I wrote up to sixty constituent responses a day, accurately reflecting my Senator’s tone and positions. I routinely handled multiple priorities and was entrusted to draft the Senator’s weekly newsletter because of my writing abilities and understanding of her current bills. I met with constituents and lobbyists, graciously balancing their requests and concerns with the interests of the Senator’s. I loved the job and excelled at it, to the point where I was promoted and got an intern of my own! Also, through this experience I wrote a research paper on a bill the Senator wrote. This paper, about the juvenile justice system, enabled me to win a Library Research Award! By the end of my second year, I was considering working at the Washington State Senate upon graduation.
